Former Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson Jr. Joins Michigan Cannabis Industry Association Board of Directors

LANSING – The Michigan Cannabis Industry Association (MICIA) announced today that former Detroit Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson Jr. joined its board of directors. The non-profit trade association is Michigan’s largest association representing nearly 200 cannabis businesses of all license types as well as the ancillary businesses that serve them.

“Calvin brings savvy business skills and a compelling personal story behind his launch into the cannabis industry. He will be an important ambassador for the industry and a fantastic addition to our board,” said MICIA Executive Director Robin Schneider.

Johnson and his business partner, Rob Sims Jr., are currently in the process launching several licensed cannabis facilities across the state under the brand name Primative. As former professional football players, they both recognized the benefits of cannabis for treating issues like chronic pain shortly after their NFL careers ended. Through Primative, Johnson and Sims look to enhance the scientific conversation regarding cannabis while introducing effective and safe medicine to a broad spectrum of end users.

“The Michigan Cannabis Industry Association is a winning team that has established itself as the leading voice for licensed cannabis businesses in the state. I am proud to help drive them forward to advocate for a well-regulated, responsible and inclusive business environment that will position Michigan as a national leader,” said Johnson. “Their policy priorities and focus on issues like expungement and social equity are a key reason I joined this team.”
